DIY Blog Tour: Banners & Buttons

The DIY Blog Tour button that starts every post is an easy way to create continuity within this blog series. The same goal can be achieved through the use of a button or banner created especially for your tour. There are lots of great free services you can use to create these that don't require any special technical expertise.

I use Pixlr to create my buttons. It's intuitive, easy to use, and free. For backgrounds, I've had a lot of luck with texturemate. They have a ton of different textures from wood and steel to dirt and fabric. And, it's free! For pictures, but sure you aren't stealing. Googling something and copying the picture is not okay. Those graphics, pictures, etc. were created by someone and you need their permission to use them. If you're looking for something safe to use (and free, do you sense a theme), I love Wikimedia.  It's well organized and every picture has very clear guidelines and how it can and cannot be used.

If, like me, you need a little hand holding, here is a great tutorial from Carrie Butler on how to use Pixlr to make your button.

In unrelated news, today is my birthday. I'm still not 40, so it's okay to celebrate.

  1. Happy Birthday! Hope you have a fantastic day. No worries about 40, ask my kids, they will tell you I'm 29. It's all in the training..lol

  2. I've been learning a lot from following your blog this month. Great stuff! Nice to have your birthday fall on a Friday. That means you get the whole weekend to be spoiled by your family:-)

  3. Happy birthday! And what's wrong with 40 -- or being way older than 40? As long as you're happy and healthy, it doesn't matter what age your are. (But seriously, you get way smarter about life after 45 or so. Just sayin'.)

I use GIMP (free) and Wikimedia, freepik.com or morguefile.com for free images. I made a blog-hop badge and a banner for Julie Flanders (I'm still working on mine), but I didn't put "Blog Tour" or dates on the banners because I didn't want them to have a shelf life.

Have a good weekend, Sarah! :-)

  4. Ugh, I missed your birthday! I hope it was a great one. Fotor is another great site for making buttons and banners. And it's also free.
